First Visit - Consultation and Examination
A thorough history will be taken and physical examination performed. A concise diagnosis will be provided along with a report of findings. A patient-centred treatment plan will be explained and a referral for diagnostic imaging or to another health care professional if warranted.
Muscle Release Therapy
A soft tissue movement-based manual technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.
-
Targets tissue fibrosis or scar tissue
-
Effective for chronic repetitive strain injuries or acute sprains/strains
-
Decreases pain, stiffness and tissue dysfunction
-
Improves range of motion
Exercise Prescription
Various exercises and stretches will be provided on a patient specific basis. These exercises and stretches are aimed to help you actively manage your individual treatment plan.
Joint Manipulation and Spine Mobilizations
A non-invasive form of manual therapy. When indicated, manipulation of the joints in the body, often to the spine, is used to reduce pain, improve joint mobility, and restore proper function to the area.
-
Highly controlled, pain-free low-risk therapy
-
Often immediate improvements when the joint and local muscles are the pain causing structure
-
Part of a broader treatment plan; not a stand-alone therapy
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
This is a manual therapy approach to treating musculoskeletal injuries using specifically designed tools. The tools help assist in the treatment of adhesions and scarring brought on by surgeries, injuries, and overuse of muscles. Treatment aims to break up abnormal densities in tissue, stimulate the nervous system, and reinitiate first stage healing in the body. IASTM aims to treat scarring and fibrosis, fascial and neural tension, muscle shortening, neurologic restriction, and trigger points.
Custom Orthotics
Prescription orthotics look like insoles, but are actually biomechanical medical appliances, that are custom-made to correct your specific foot imbalance. Orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole – and have the advantage of being made from precise imprints of your feet.
Acupuncture
Western medical acupuncture is a therapeutic modality involving the insertion of fine needles; it is an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture using current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, and the principles of evidence-based medicine:
-
Stimulating healing in both acute and chronic injury
-
Natural treatment option for reducing pain and inflammation
-
Supported by research for the treatment of osteoarthritis
IFC Therapy
Interferential Current (IFC) sends small amounts of electrical current through the skin to stimulate the tissues around an injured body part to promote pain relief and healing. IFC is safe and effective, and patients describe the feeling as a tingling or “pins and needles” sensation. Treatment aims to reduce pain, decrease muscle spasm, reduce swelling and inflammation, while increasing blood flow, and to promote healing.
